About V3 Systems

The founders of V3 Systems had been incubating and working toward moving applications and data to the cloud, but it wasn’t until August of 2010 that V3 formally commenced business operations.   Founders Peter Bookman and Rodney Rasmussen experimented with virtual desktops in the cloud but even after years of development efforts, they and others realized that virtual desktops lacked performance and delivered a substandard end user experience.   As they tested, it became clear that virtual desktops could not replace physical desktops because they were slow, hard to manage and impossible to scale.   For Peter, virtual desktops were a downgrade from his physical desktops, and for Rodney, virtual desktops were simply unusable.  These realizations forged the inspiration to create V3 Systems and develop technology that could deliver on the heretofore broken promises of virtual desktop computing.

V3 Systems was founded to deliver on the ideas of Desktop Cloud Computing (DCC).  DCC offers the Performance, utilization, and management benefits that were promised, but never delivered, by legacy VDI. Thus creating virtual desktops that would serve as an upgrade for end users. Even when compared with their physical machines.  V3 applied high performance computing (HPC) principles to their virtual desktop knowledge and experiences, created new technologies, and re-architected virtual desktops so that today, V3’s Desktop Replacement Grade high performance Virtual Desktops are easily deployed, scaled, and managed.

At VMworld 2010 in San Francisco, V3 was the first company to show virtual desktops in the cloud that were faster than local physical machines.  V3 delivered these high performance virtual desktops in the form of a drop-in server/appliance.  Each V3 Appliance is capable of serving up virtual desktops alone, or, can be used as building blocks that scale for large users with 50 – 400 high performance virtual desktops served by each V3 Appliance.

In March of 2011, V3 Systems released for general availability its “V-“ line series of Appliances which deliver, what V3 believes to be, the three pillars of virtual desktop computing:  Performance, Availability, and, Utilization. The response from V3’s customers has been enthusiastic to say the least.  V3 has succeeded in creating an unheard of opportunity for companies:  the ability to fully replace their entire collection of physical desktops with V3’s Virtual Desktops, getting them out of the physical desktop management business.  Once a company is managing a collection of V3’s Desktop Cloud Computers, it can proactively service those desktops, and increase overall productivity while lowering the cost of desktop management and ownership.

What continues to set V3 Systems apart is its conviction that hosted virtual desktops are a better way to deal with desktops than local physical machines over time.   Delivering on its convictions, V3 succeeds in lowering OpEX costs while increasing end-user experience and productivity.  Even more groundbreaking, V3 has created and implemented architectures that deliver superior performance via its V3 Appliances, which, when coupled with V3’s Optimization Layer™ Management Tools, allow customers to scale beyond hundreds into thousands of virtual desktops quickly and easily.  Incredibly, V3’s Desktop Cloud Computing shows increased performance benchmarks as more V3 Appliances are used, improving End User experience even more.  V3 has architected all V3 Appliances so that they may serve as drop-in building blocks of various sizes allowing customers to incorporate them into their existing systems gradually if they choose, or, to scale them rapidly across diverse and distributed infrastructures.  This ability to customize, scale and manage high performance Desktop Cloud Computing stems from V3’s Optimization Layer Management Tools technologies and in so doing, V3 has become the first true virtual desktop management company.

Not satisfied with these groundbreaking and dynamic changes to the virtual desktop market, V3 Systems intends to continue innovating.  In the near term, V3 will be the first to deliver truly scalable, manageable, high performance Desktop Cloud Computing architectures, allowing its customers to scale and manage tens of thousands of virtual desktops in 2012, to hundreds of thousands in 2013.   For V3 Systems, it will not stop there and clearly, we believe there is no limit to V3 opportunities in the cloud!
